First week in Microbiology class

First day of class Microbiology (13/9/2017)

It is the first day class of microbiology. I'm slightly nervous and excited of what will we going through today. As our lecturer Dr. Wan came, she briefly introduces herself and she started to ask us question. She also told us to make 9 group which contain in a group 1 Malaysia. I'm in a group of 5 people. She throw a few question to us about microorganisms and the group of microorganisms. I feel flustered when suddenly Dr. Wan just ask us question without we learn anything but she said that it is her own ways to teach us which is the "Ask question style". She also said that once we go inside the the room, we also going inside the microbiology world.

On that day, we also learn about the biggest bacteria in the world. It is Thimargarita namibiensis.  Is a gram negative coccoid Proteobacterium, found in ocean sediments of the contenential shelf of Namibia (Source: Wikipedia). This bacteria also has it nickname which "sulfur pearl". This is because of it appearances, which it looks like a pearl and it contain sulfur granules that scatter. We also learn about algae a little bit which is Watermelon Snow, also known as snow algae. It looks beautiful as it colour light pink. It is a species of green algae that contain a red carotenoid pigment. We also discuss about the group of microorganisms. There is algae, fungi, viruses, bacteria and archaea. At the end of the class she told us to write about how we feel on our first class of microbiology on the padlet to being share to her.

Second day of class microbiology (15/9/2017)

At the second day of class , we sitted in our own group. Dr. Wan briefly explain about the topic we will learn that day which is Introduction of Microbiology.
In this topic, we will learn about the history of microbiology. The first person who observe and described single called organisms is Antonie van Leeuwenhoek. He originally refered organisms as animalcules. We also to define microoraganisms and why should we study microorganisms. We also discuss about the appilication of microbiology. Which it can be used as antibiotic and vaccination also as agriculture and industrial microbiology.

That is I guess for my entry. Well eventhough it is our first week in microbiology class I hope my classmate and I will create a good bonding together and and make beautiful memories. That's all. Thank you :)
