ELECTRON MICROSCOPE, SUPERBUG AND ETC

Hello dearies all, so for this week our class continue our lesson which is the topic of Microscopy. We continue our discussion about the Electron Microscope . There are two type of Electron Microscope which is Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) . So basically SEM will produce a realistic 3D images of specimen. This microscope also the expensive microscope compare to others. For TEM it produces 2D images and also the cross-section of the specimens.

Dr. Wan also give us a small task which  we need to discuss within our group on how to prevent superbug. For anyone who curious what is superbug, I will tell you a little about  it. Well superbug is a strain of bacteria that are resistance to the majority of antibiotics that commonly used today. There are a lot of case that people die because of superbug and doctor can't stop it from spreading. We all discuss how we want to prevent the superbug from spreading. Every group of representative will present their idea in front of class. Some ideas that we suggested are find protozoa that not harmful to human to kill the superbug, stop bacteria interaction and also use lock and key hypothesis which bind substrate to the enzyme.

Well all the idea that we suggest Dr. Wan think that is a very good idea. At the end she give us the solution, which is find a new antibiotic through microbe.

For the next class, Dr. Wan give us a task about the new topics. Which is Classification of Organisms. Dr. assign us to identify each member who are the expert of the subtopics of this topics. So basically there are 6 subtopics that she assign to us. There are Taxonomy, Nomenclature, Classification, Phylogenetic and methods. I pick Nomenclature. Then each of the expert will sits in the group of themselves and discuss how to present their topics to others, so other will easy understand. For our group the presenter are Amy and me. After done the discussion, the person that not present will go around to other group to hear their explanation. I think this kind ways of learning kinda new, so it a bit awkward at first but while time going by I think it is a fun ways to study.

Below I want to share about what that I explain to others about Nomenclature.
For first of all we just need to know the general rule of naming:
1) Genus must capitalised
2)Species must lowercase
3)Genus can abbreviations
4)Species cannot abbreviation
5)Genus can stand alone without species name
6)Species cannot stand alone

Strain is subgroup species with one or more characteristics that distinguish it from other subgroups of the same species. It can be identify by name, number or letter
There are three different ways to describe strains within a species.

1)Biovars - strains characterize by biochemical and physiological difference.
2)Morphovars - differ morphologically
3)Serovars - distinctive antigenic properties

So that is for today I will update next week. Thank you for visited my blog. I hope the content of my blog will give benefit for all. Thank you.
